Yellow Jackets vs. The Replacements, April 11th, 2007 Welcome to the Division Replacements... The Replacements, a league team, thrown together out of open hockey players and placed in Division 5 were to be the first opponent in the way of the Yellow Jackets. Not knowing what the Replacements were capable of, and playing their usual unintelligent season opening style, the Jackets were victimized for two quick goals against by the Replacements. Shocked out of the gate, the Jackets responded, first with Marat Shikhris' one timer of a Heller pass finding the twine. Then some hard work from James Browne and George Remminik led to a Frank Perone goal a minute later. Late in the period, the comeback was completed as Shikhris took a LaRobardier breakaway pass into the Replacement zone and scored easily, closing the period at 3-2. In the second, the Jackets struck early as a face off win by Peronne led to a drive from the point from LaRobardier, that carried into the net, giving the Jackets a 4-2 lead. 60 seconds later, Marc Desomma struck, getting his own rebound off a shot from a Matt Desomma pass, putting the Jackets up by 3. Shikhris struck again, stealing the puck at the Jacket's point and skating in to beat the netminder for his 3rd of the game. 30 seconds later, Neil Skorka tallied for the Jackets, slamming in a rebound of a Heller shot to finish the period at 7-2 Jackets. Early in the third, Matt Desomma tore it up, scoring 2 goals in 43 seconds with assists going to Red Akai and the elder Desomma. The Jackets sat back and let the replacements control the game, and quickly the Replacemets made the Jackets pay for their mistake. Two goals in ten seconds gave some life back to the Replacements, and the game was a much more even afair after that. The Jackets tallied a final goal, a shot following a face off by Dan Levy weaved it's way past the mass of bodies in front to close the scoring at 10-4 Jackets. A solid win against a team with little organization of it's talent. The Jackets should take note, because the next time they meet the Replacements, the game could be different.
