Yellow Jackets vs. Orange Lantern, May 2nd, 2007 Jackets Lose 2 Straight, Fall to O.L. The Jackets started off last nights contest slow and sluggish, allowing the O.L. to control the play and unremarkably take a 3 goal lead just halfway into the opening frame. The Jackets called their timeout to regroup and played a more even second half of the period. The teams played some more even hockey into the second until Joe Grecco, filling in for the injured George Remennik, scored his first Jacket goal off a rebound to make the game 3-1. The O.L. struck back with two minutes left in the period, scoring two goals in less than a minute, raising their lead to an opposing 4 goals. The Jackets would not lay down and die, as with their captain in the box for standing up the O.L. star player, Marat Shikhris took a shorthanded loose puck in for a breakaway goal, cutting the lead to 3. 2 minutes later, a scrum in front of the O.L. net led to a loose puck on the stick of Frank Perrone who found the back of the net, slashing the lead to 2. After a failed power-play, the Jackets were able to score a quick one as Mike Heller found an open Shikhris in front who slammed home his second, cutting the lead to one at 5-4. Then the Jackets had a meltdown. After fighting so hard to bring the game within reach, they gave it back to the O.L. A bad play at the O.L. blue line led to a hard backchecking play by Heller who was forced into taking a hooking call with 5 to play. The O.L. scored against what was the Jacket's main strenght of late, their PK. A minute later, Marc Desomma was roughed up infront of the net, drew a penalty, but negated the power play by retailiating against the player... Not a good play... O.L. scored 2 more tallies and Desomma added in a misconduct for good measure. Not a good ending for a game by any means. The Jackets have to try to play a more disciplined game and try to play smarter in their own zone for 45 solid minutes if they expect to skate with these teams. |
