Yellow Jackets vs. Dead Man's Hand, July 11th, 2007 Jackets Take Season Opener The Jackets wanted a win to start the season and they did not disappoint themselves. The Dead Man's Hand were able to strike first, taking advantage of a phanthom tripping call against the Jacket's captain, Allan LaRobardier,to tally a lucky bounce on the powerplay, but the Jackets were not held down long. Matt Desomma threaded the needle to hit Chris Hagen, making a cameo appearence after delivering the new jerseys, whom redirected the pass into the waiting net. The first remained deadlocked as both teams skated well. The DMH's and the Jacket's goaltenders both played well in the second, but the deadlock was ended when a DMH player's wrister beat Matt Rovetto on the glove side, giving them a one goal lead at the halfway point. The Jackets soon responded again, this time Wolf carried the puck over the DMH blue and dished it to Mike Earl, who's first shot was twarted only to lift his own rebound over the goaltender on the backhand to tie the score. The second ended much as the first, with the score tied, this time 2-2. Some fireworks erupted in the third as Chris Sisco, taking his usual misconduct penalty while playing defense, was ejected after a tussle infront of the Jackets net. The skirmish ended with a Jackets powerplay, where Chris Hagen was able to control the puck behind the net and hit Neil Skorka in front whom put the puck over the DMH netminder to give the Jackets their first lead of the contest. After several tense minutes, with the clock winding down, the DMH pulled their goalie and soon after, a steal by Hagen led to his 2nd of the night, an empty netter to seal the victory. The Jackets start the season on a high note and hope to carry this momentum on to the next game, vs. the Old Dirty Gills.... |
