Yellow Jackets vs. Old Dirty Gills, August 22nd, 2007

Jackets Put the Hook in the Gills

After slipping to a 1 goal deficit on a long shot early in the game, the Jackets were able to regroup to tie the score when Tanner Finnan set up Nick Lavia in front. The tight game stayed knotted up into the second.

Early in the second, the Jackets were awarded a powerplay, and some strong control by Tanner Finnan and Nick Lavia in the corner turned into a Lavia blast that deflected off a ODG man in front and found the net giving the Jackets the early lead in the second. The Jackets stuck again when Finnan's face off win to Lavia was sent back to the point to Allan LaRobardier, who's shot on net was redirected by Finnan, he got his own rebound to tally the Jackets third goal, staking them to a 2 goal lead. The ODG responded with a goal of their own, but Tanner Finnan tallied yet again to give the Jackets back their 2 goal advantage where the period ended, 4-2.

In a tight checking third, the ODG were able to beat Rovetto, who had played a strong game after giving up the first long shot of the game, to cut the lead to one. The Jackets resolve was shown when Matt Desomma was able to steal the puck and net a unassisted tally to rebuild the 2 goal lead. Late in the period, with the game slipping away on ODG, they resorted to rough play when James Browne was highsticked, he wisely did not retaliate and on the ensuing play, Tanner Finnan was able to coax out a breakaway and score his 3rd of the game, sealing the Jackets victory at 6-3.

The Jackets must understand that after taking the season series, they must now make it mean something, against the very same team, when they face them in the first round of the playoffs. You can be sure they will be a very motivated bunch.
