Yellow Jackets vs. Orange Lantern, March 7th, 2007

Jackets Juiced by Orange Lantern

Comming off a spirited victory over the Colt 45 in round 1 of the winter playoffs, the Jackets knew the Orange Lantern would not be an easy task this fridgid evening. After trading off wins and notching a tie before the final game of the season against the O.L., only to lose the final game by giving up 4 straight goals to suffer a 7-6 loss, the Jackets had no doubt this game would not be won without a strong effort.

The Jackets started the game on their heels, as almost off the opening faceoff, the O.L. was able to get a partial breakaway and slam one past a shocked Matt Rovetto for the first tally, just 18 seconds in. The Yellow Jackets quickly responded, with Neil Skorka lifting a rebound over the O.L> goaltender to knot the score. The stalemate was shortlived as the O.L. answered back off the next draw, assuming a one goal lead. The game settled down, but another breakdown lead to another O.L. goal, giving them a 3-1 lead after one frame.

The second period was played much tighter, with no scoring, but two unfruitful powerplays to the Jackets. Who failed to score despite good chances.

Early in the third, Frank Peronne was able to tip a Tanner Finnan shot over the shoulder of the O.L. goaltender, giving the Jackets a glimmer of home, making the score 3-2. Halfway through the period, the Jackets carried the puck what looked like over their blue line, but the referee waved off the offsides, and despite a bump on the Jacket's goaltender, the O.L.'s tally was allowed to stand, and the Jackets fell down by 2 again, 4-2. Not giving up, the Jackets responded with Peronne scoring again, this time putting home a George Remennik rebound to post his second of the game. The Jackets were able to draw a powerplay late in the game, but it was cancelled out by a hooking penalty against. Despite pulling the goalie and pressuring down low late in the game, the Jackets could not get the goal they needed and fell to the O.L., 4-3, ending their up and down season one game too early.
